Referees retire, make way for others

by Martin Rødvand on November 14, 2010

The time of year when great officials are being forced to retire has come again. As Fifa imposes the 45 year age limit on international officials, every year some will fall out due to this limit while others will move off the international list for different reasons.

The most notable officials to be removed from the list this season is the Danish referee Claus Bo Larsen and Norwegian referee Terje Hauge. Both referees will be forced of the list due to Fifa’s age restriction.

But these two are not the only referees to go off the list. Previously this season the Dutch official Pieter Vink announced his international retirement.

The following referees are confirmed off the list by New Year:

Elite category
Claus Bo Larsen, Denmark – Age restriction
Pieter Vink, Netherlands – International retirement
Alain Hamer, Luxembourg – Age restriction
Terje Hauge, Norway – Age restriction

Category 2
Nicolai Vollquartz, Denmark – Age restriction
Douglas McDonald, Scotland – Age restriction
Martin Ingvarsson, Sweden –  Age restriction
Claudio Circhetta, Switzerland – New job
Georgio Dalouka, Greece – see comment

Category 3
Alfonso Perez Burrull, Spain – Age restriction
Alexander Gvardis, Russia – Age restriction
Carlo Bertolini, Switzerland – Age restriction
Ceri Richards, Wales – Age restriction
Johan Verbits – see comment

Category 4
Anthony Buttimer, Ireland – Age restriction

If you have any knowledge of other referees moving off the list, please feel free to use the comment area below, or send me an email at martin@law5-thereferee.net.
