Salvadoran Joel Aguilar has been appointed to referee the Gold Cup final between USA and Mexico on Saturday. He will be assisted by Canadian Hector Vergara and fellow Salvadoran William Torres with Walter Lopez from Guatemala as fourth official.
The 36-year-old has been an international referee since 2001, and was present at the 2010 World Cup as a fourth official. He recently took charge of the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League final between Monterrey and Real Salt Lake.
Aguilar has not refereed any of the final teams previously in this Gold Cup. He took charge of the Honduras – Jamaica match in the group stage, his only match this tournament as a referee.
His assistant Hector Vergara will be the most experienced official on the field, having assisted in a record number of 14 games over three World Cups. He has been present at the last six Gold Cups and this will be his third final.
