TheFA.com writes:

The honour of refereeing The FA Cup Final is bestowed on an official once only during their career and recognises the quality and consistency of their performances throughout a season.

The Liverpool FA official, and Respect Ambassador, expressed his delight at the announcement, saying: “To get any appointment from The FA is always a great honour, but this surpasses anything that has happened to me in the past.

TheFA.com writes:

Chris Foy will referee The FA Community Shield this year, as FA Cup winners Chelsea take on Premier League champions Manchester United at Wembley on 9 August.

The Merseyside official, who was first appointed to the Select Group Referees list in 2001, has previous experience in officiating at Wembley having taken charge of this year’s League Cup Final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur and he also refereed the 2007 FA Trophy Final, which was the first competitive Final to be played at the new stadium.

Foy will be joined by Assistant Referees Philip Sharp and Simon Beck, Fourth Official Lee Mason and Reserve Assistant Andy Newbold.

Foy was last January appointed to the Carling Cup final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. The 46-year-old is one of Premier League’s most experienced officials having been one the select group since 2001.
