Mike Dean with Arsenal – Birmingham final

by Martin Rødvand on February 5, 2011

Mike Dean has been handed the assignment of refereeing the Carling Cup final in the end of February. Dean will be assisted by Ron Ganfield and Mike Mullarkey with Kevin Friend acting as fourth official. Scott Ledger will be the reserve assistant referee.

The game will be between Arsenal and Birmingham and is played on February 27th at Wembley stadium.

Dean joined the Select Group of officials in 2000 before becoming an international referee in 2002. He has since been promoted in the European system and he is now refereeing in the Europa League at a regular basis.

Domestically he refereed the FA Community Shield between Arsenal and Manchester United in 2004, and he was appointed to the FA Cup final in 2008 between Portsmouth and Cardiff. In 2006 he was replaced by Alan Wiley as the FA Cup final referee due to him living close to Liverpool, one of the competitors in the match.

Assistant referee Mike Mullarkey assisted Howard Webb in last season’s Champions League final as well as the World Cup final last July.
