I will now try something I have not done before on this blog. As we know, some of the referees for the Gold Cup has been announced by their national football associations, but we have not seen the complete list.
This post will mainly work as a discussion thread, where I will update the post with new referees as they become announced. If you do not wish to post in the comments, you can email me at martin@law5-thereferee.net.
The 2011 Gold Cup will be played in the United States June 5 – June 25, and the winner is qualified for the Confederations Cup in Brazil in 2013.
The referees we know of are (taken from the comments in Referees for U-20 World Cup post):
Referee, assistant, assistant, country
Walter Lopéz, Hernenerito Leal, Gerson López, Guatemala
David Gantar, Hector Vergara, Joe Fletcher, Canada
Jair Marrufo, USA
Baldomero Toledo, USA
Do you know of any referees going to the Gold Cup? Let us know in the comments!

As I wrote in the other thread, I am surprised because I thought about the old system with 15 referees and 12 assistant referees. Now we seem to have trios at Gold Cup as well. I will try to find out something more, perhaps there are some good links like this newspaper in Rwanda last time ;)
Superb news! I wrote an e-mail about 30 minutes ago, and whup, that is the response!
“Hi Niclas,
We expect to release the names today in the afternoon.
Thanks
Ben”
Who is Ben? :)
I did not know him before either :D
Ben Spencer, a member of the CONCACAF service I think.
Unexpected for me Gantar (CAN) instead of Ward, who seemed to be number 1.
I heard from Felipe Ramos Rizo that Francisco (Paco) Chacón is going to the Gold Cup, but it’s not confirmed yet. He is been doing well at home and maybe he will be appointed for the return-leg final mexican league.
On the other hand, it’s very likely that 2 referees from México (3 in 2009) will be appointed so I assume the other one could be Marco Rodríguez, number 1 in this country.
Other expected names: Quesada (CRC), Aguilar (SLV), Moreno (PAN), Campbell (JAM), Pineda (HON), Brea (CUB)???? Wijngaarde (SUR)????
Hasn’t Vergara reached the mandatory retirement age yet? He has been a FIFA AR forever it seems. He got his badge in ’93. He has already been to three World Cups and has been in more World Cup games than any other referee in history. Turn in your badge already. Give someone else a shot.
I hope Marrufo doesn’t give a water break during one of the games. Can’t believe he almost went to the World Cup.
