Uefa referee categories for first half of 2010-2011 season

by Martin Rødvand on July 9, 2010

Ahead of each new season Uefa releases a list containing different referee categories and referees. This list will be the list from which Uefa chooses referees for Champions League, Europa League and various youth competitions. The referees on the Elite category will mainly be in charge of Champions League games, the Premier/Premier Development/Cat 2 will handle Europa League and Cat 3 and 4 will take charge of qualifiers to Europa League and youth games.

On the Elite category we have few changes, with only two referees promoted from the Premier development category. Manuel Mejuto Gonzalez, Tom Henning Øvrebø and Roberto Rosetti have all retired from refereeing. Gianluca Rocchi (ITA) and Kevin Blom (NED) are the new Elite referees.

I get the lists later today. Will publish them on my blog later on (busy day with work). Don’t know if Martin is interested. He had never published the list of futsal and women before (as far as I can see), but maybe he’ll publish too.

I’m reading he got very high marks after his last match. Referee observer was Pierluigi Collina. That would obviously be a big help in getting on the Elite list.

Hi Asif, in every country there are referee organisations. Depends on the country you live, where you need to register. If you’ve started a referee career in that country you can climb the refereeing ladder and finally become an international referee (depending on your quality of refereeing of course).
