UEFA to give more power to the referee?

by Martin Rødvand on July 1, 2009

UEFA is meeting in Vilnius, Lithuania today and tomorrow discussing and clarifying various decisions made at the FIFA Executive Committee meeting in Nassau, Bahamas previous this year.

We will hopefully get more information about the upcoming extra two assistants experiment. UEFA is also discussing granting the referee more power to stop, suspend or abandon a match after outside interference. It’s suggested that the referee should be the one making the decision of where to draw the line when it comes to racism during the match.

It will be interesting to see the Committee’s reasoning for this suggestion.
