UEFA has updated their referee categories for the second half of the 2009-2010 season.
The Elite list is unchanged, with exceptions of the retirement of Konrad Plautz, Iouri Baskakov, Michael Riley and Bertrand Layec.
Four referees are promoted from category 2 to the Premier Development category (Tony Chapron, Carlos Velasco Carballo, Alexei Nikolaev and Cuneyt Cakir.)
The whole list can be found on the Norwegian FA’s site, or here.

This is my first post, I follow your blog for a long time, though. Thanks for list updating, I knew I could find the list on this site. And for the promotions, for me, it’s quite exciting to see a Turkish referee in the premier category after a long time. We will see how he is going to perform on this level. Besides, do you have any idea why Anton Genov is not taken out of the list but put the cross next? Is there any chance for him to come back?
Hi Gorkem, and thanks for your comment.
It’s always interesting to see new referees from the smaller nations being promoted.
I don’t think Anton Genov will be refereeing anymore matches in the UEFA system. As of now he’s suspended, and the earliest moment I could see him being vindicated is for the next season. Seeing how Genov is born in 66 this would be his last season, and the amount of pressure UEFA would get with him refereeing any matches in Europe, I don’t think they’ll risk it.
You can read more about the Genov incident over with Associated Press: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jufrPY6DrAz-LUObU0_nP_eaMqFwD9CJUM8O0
Is there a similar list available for futsal referees?
Oh, I’m not really into the futsal refereeing, but FIFA have the international futsal referees at http://www.fifa.com/aboutfifa/developing/refereeing/futsal.html .
That’s something at least.
Here are the categories for Futsal Referees.

Thank you.
Today, another Turkish Category 2 referee Selçuk Dereli (his last match was Everton – BATE Borisov last week) annouced that he has retired from active refereeing. The reason is unclear but most likely he has lost his hopes after UEFA list updated as he wasn’t promoted.
In one way it makes sense. He’s now refereeing in the Europa League. A promotion to the premier category next season would still see him ref Europa League. He wouldn’t have many seasons left, and I guess UEFA would be hesitant promoting a referee for only one or two seasons on the elite category.
Still, plenty of referees would be more than happy with becoming a FIFA-referee.
