First Premier League appointments announced

by Martin Rødvand on August 12, 2009

The English Premier League kicks off this Saturday, and The PGMO uploaded the first set of appointments Monday evening. The appointments can be found on the Refworld website, and I’m only writing them up this once because it’s the first game of the season.

Aston Villa v Wigan Athletic
Mark Clattenburg, Peter Kirkup and Mo Matadar – Lee Mason

Blackburn Rovers v Manchester City
Mike Dean, Jeremy Simpson and Dave Richardson – Kevin Friend

Bolton Wanderers v Sunderland
Andre Marriner, Adam Watts and Gary Stott – Nigel Miller

Chelsea v Hull City (12.45)
Alan Wiley, Shaun Procter-Green and Andy Newbold – Phil Dowd

Everton v Arsenal (17.30)
Mark Halsey, Andy Garratt and Trevor Massey – Mike Jones

Portsmouth v Fulham
Martin Atkinson, Phil Sharp and Darren Cann – Andy Woolmer

Stoke City v Burnley
Steve Bennett, Andy Halliday and Martin Yerby – Andy Penn

Wolverhampton Wanderers v West Ham United
Chris Foy, Bob Pollock and Ceri Richards – Lee Probert

Manchester United v Birmingham City (13.30)
Lee Mason, Jake Collin and Michael Murphy – Mike Dean

Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool (16.00)
Phil Dowd, Mike Mullarkey and Simon Beck – Stuart Attwell

We can note that the newly promoted Kevin Friend is fourth official for Mike Dean this week, while Mark Clattenburg is back after almost a year gone from Premier League refereeing. Howard Webb is the only official we really miss from this list.

The team from last Sunday’s Community Shield game is split again, but all officials is refereeing this weekend. Last year’s most controversial referee, Stuart Attwell is getting a slow start with a fourth official assignment on Sunday, after a League 1 assignment on Saturday.
